NUCF Condemns the Proposed Burning of Qur’an

NUCF Condemns the Proposed Burning of Qur'an

The National United Christian Forum is deeply concerned over media reports which suggest that a church in Florida state of the United States of America is leading a campaign to burn copies of the Koran on September 11, 2010.

Cardinal Oswald Gracias the President of CBCI in a statement said, "such a campaign goes totally contrary to the teaching of Jesus Christ. In His life and teaching, Jesus respected all religions and all men and women who sincerely seek God and His will in their lives. All Christians are called to do likewise."

The National Council of Churches in India in a statement, called upon all its constituents - churches, and ecumenical councils, organisations and agencies, to "reach out to the Muslim brothers and sisters with a spirit of goodwill and friendship particularly at this time, which can be used by miscreants to sow seeds of division.

The NCCI recalled the experiences of solidarity and the sense of mutual self-respect shared between the peoples of Muslim and Christian communities in India at all times and particularly when issues relating to religious minorities, including the recent claim of SC status to Dalit Muslims and Dalit Christians, and that of secularism were addressed."

The Evangelical Fellowship of India stated that, "in the guise of exercising of one's freedom of speech, Rev. Terry Jones of the Dove World Outreach Center should not fuel communal passions. This one individual's act will result in strained relationships between Muslim and Christians across the globe."

The NUCF stands in solidarity with our Muslim brothers and sisters in India to condemn this proposed programme on September 11, 2010 and joins with brothers and sisters in Christ in the US, to appeal to the Dove world Outreach Centre to reconsider their decision in the light of Christ's message of love and peace.
